Stony Brook University. Professor Lou Charnon-Deutsch

On Monday, November 24, before Thanksgiving Break, the Department
had the pleasure of hosting a guest speaker from Stony Brook University.
Professor Lou Charnon-Deutsch gave a presentation on the development of the
visual culture and humor in newspapers and journals printed in the 19th
century. Specifically, she spoke of the changes from using a press system to
photography, presenting new ideas of beauty and “reality” with the transition. Professor
Charnon-Deutsch’s most recent published work was on the representation of women
and historical events in Spanish periodicals of the 19th century
onwards.
