Elementary Mixteco 1 / Spring 2020 Monday and Wednesday 10:00am - 11:40pm Variants: Mixteco- mixteco alto de Santa Maria Peñoles. This course will incorporate various learning modalities. In addition to conventional strategies like reading texts and taking exams, we will engage in conversations with community members in the New York area, that speak Mixteco (this specific variant/dialect), or that understand the dialect of Mixtec being taught, to culminate in a project where the student will have a basic conversation on topics learned during the semester. This will be video documented and will count as the final project.
Elementary Nahuatl 1 / Spring 2020 Monday and Thursday 11:00am - 12:40pm Variants: Nahuatl, contemporary varieties of the central Nahuatl and the Huasteca Veracruzana. The course of the Nahuatl language includes level A1, which is the basic level of introduction. With this course, students are expected to express themselves from the first day in Nahuatl, so that the sessions are developed in the target language creating a context of total immersion.
