Spanish Program-Spain Today/ Dr. Simón-Alegre

On Wednesday September 6th at 12 pm, in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, professor Ana Simon Alegre hosted a video conference with the independent scholar Roberto Torres Blanco from Spain (Universidad Complutense, Madrid). The virtual conference was part of the "Spain Today" course, and was titled "Songwriters and Music in Spain (1939-1982)."

Spanish program, Dr. Ana Simón-Alegre


Join me in congratulating yet another colleague for the following conference acceptance and publication, our Dr. Simón-Alegre has been invited to speak at  the University of Barcelona at a university wide colloquium on November 23rd about her current research. The title of her presentation is: "Free Life Lessons from women of the Avant-Garde in Spain and The United States."
She also has two publications out:
"Face to face with Carmen de Burgos. The influence of other women writers on her career and her work". Edited by Anja Louis and Michelle Sharp, Multiple Modernities. Carmen de Burgos: Author and Activist, Routledge, 2007.

Prof. Selleri, Italian progrsm




The Italian program has already good news to share, Prof. Selleri's  proposal, “Li iudei del Regno - Jewish communal identity in the fifteenth-century Jewish charters of the Kingdom of Naples,” has been accepted for presentation at the AJS 49th Annual Conference, to be held at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC from Sunday, December 17 through Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

SPAnish Position available.

he Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District has an anticipated full-time probationary opening for Teacher of Spanish.  The position begins in September.  Certification in Spanish 7-12 is required, and FLES certification or MS 5-6 extension is highly desirable.  Interested applicants can apply on OLAS, and can also send resumes to: hlevine@pobschools.org

French Program- Dr. Priya Wadhera

 
 
 Priya's "Un passage anti-madeleine : le refus du goût et du souvenir chez Perec" has been accepted to a conference in France called «Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es » : fictions identitaires, fictions alimentairesThis international colloquium on the relationship between food and identity in French fiction takes its name from the famous line of Brillat-Savarin, “You are what you eat,” and will take place in Strasbourg, France, from the 8th to the 10th of November in 2017.  She is sharing her research with speakers coming from the world over.
