French Program
Dr. Nicole Rudolph delivered the paper “The Rise of the Jardin d’hiver: The Effect of the Grenelle de l’environnement on French
Ideas of Home,” at the Annual
Meeting of the Society for French Studies, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen,
Scotland, June 30-July 2, 2014. The Society for French Studies is the oldest and
largest association in the UK and Ireland, actively representing the interests
of scholars and students of French in Higher Education and sustaining a
disciplinary community at a time of rapid change.
Spanish Program
Dr.
Raysa E. Amador have been selected
to serve as a reviewer for the IFLE Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 National Resource
Centers Title VI Program Competition Peer Review of the U.S. Department of
Education in Washington, DC, from August 4th to August 8th. The program provides grants
to establish, strengthen, and operate language and area or international
studies centers that will be national resources for teaching any modern foreign
language. Grants support: instruction in fields needed to provide full
understanding of areas, regions or countries; research and training in
international studies; work in the language aspects of professional and other
fields of study; and instruction and research on issues in world affairs.
Dr. Rakhel Villamil-Acera will represent
AdelphiI at the annual UN DPI/NGO Conference, which will
take place this year at United Nations Headquarters in New York City
on August 27-29, 2014. The 65th UN
DPI/NGO Conference is titled '2015 and Beyond: Our Action Agenda,' is being
organized by the UN Department of Public Information and the NGO/DPI Executive
Committee, and will focus on the theme of 'The role of civil society in the
post 2015 development agenda'. The event seeks to provide an opportunity for
civil society networks and activists to mobilize messaging, advocacy
strategies, partnerships and accountability frameworks in the lead up to the
start of the intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development
agenda. The outcome of the conference will be a declaration that will be shared
with the UN system, the UN Member States, the global civil society and other
stakeholders.
