The Curious Case of Professor Bruno Rosselli
A strange tale of a Florentine immigrant who came to the
U.S. in 1907 and taught Italian at the original Adelphi College in Brooklyn has
come to our attention. Professor Bruno Rosselli taught Italian at Adelphi from
1911 until returning to his native country to fight in the First World War,
after which he ultimately taught at Vassar from 1919-1933. His colorful story,
told in the 0n-line Vassar Encyclopedia (linked bellow), stands as a testament
to the importance of Italian studies on Adelphi’s campus from its beginning as
an institution of higher learning.
