The school has partnerships with many secondary schools abroad and provides children an inspiring learning context. Marcq Institution welcomes on a regular basis PGCE MFL trainees studying at the Institute of Education (University College London).

As a Language Assistant, you will teach conversational English courses for 12 to 15 hours a week alongside the teacher from October to May. Seven English teachers in the school will help you with the content of the lesson. You will be in charge of small groups from 8 to 16 students aged 13 to 15.

You will introduce your contemporary culture, contribute to authentic voice recordings to enrich the school’s audiovisual resources, and why not lead a language club. But more importantly, the role of a Language Assistant is to help the pupils to see the foreign language as a living language of millions of people rather than as a ‘school’ language.

We require you to have completed at least 3 years of higher education in any discipline by the time you take up your position in our school and we think it best if you have a working knowledge of the French language. 

You will be free on French school holidays, and get a monthly allowance of 1,000€, which will allow you to cover the costs of living in France. You will get the opportunity to teach more hours and thus earn more, if you are willing to. Marcq Institution can provide free accommodation in the school. 

The city of Lille is only 5 miles away from Marcq en Baroeul. Marcq Institution can be reached by tram within 15mn from Lille railway stations (Lille Flandres, Lille Europe).
