exclusive opportunity for college students to demonstrate their mastery of
Chinese language and culture. The Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition is an international
contest sponsored by the Office of the Chinese Language Council International
(Hanban) in Beijing. It is distinguished in cultural and educational exchanges
worldwide.

The 15th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency
Competition for College Students
(7thEast USA Preliminary)
Saturday, April 9, 2016, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Applications are now being accepted for the 15th
Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition. This is an exclusive
opportunity for college students to demonstrate their mastery of Chinese
language and culture. The winner of the senior level will be invited to
participate in the final competition in China, expenses paid.
The Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition is an international
contest sponsored by the Office of the Chinese Language Council International
(Hanban) in Beijing. It is distinguished in cultural and educational exchanges
worldwide.
and is co-organized by the New York Service Center for
Chinese Study Fellows Inc. and China Institute.
Rules:
1. Eligibility
Current collegestudents aged 18 to 30, whose first
language is not Chinese, are eligible. Those who have participated in previous
competitions are not allowed to participate at the same level of the contest as
their previous participation.
2. Levels
There are two levels of the competition:
The “Junior” level is for students who have studied
Chinese for less than three years.
The “Senior” level is for students who have studied
Chinese for three and more years.
3. Competition Categories
The competition consists of two
parts:
1) Oral
Presentation. In the
oral presentation, contestants demonstrate their fluency in speaking Mandarin.
Each contestant will choose a topic and develop a short speech around it in
Mandarin. Junior-level contestants will deliver a 2-minute oral presentation
while senior-level
contestants will deliver a 3-minute presentation. Contestants will be judged by
language proficiency expression, literacy and presentation. Contestants will
also record and submit their presentation as part of the registration process.
2) Talent
Show Performance. In
the talent show performance, contestants can demonstrate their knowledge of
Chinese culture. Each contestant will showcase their talent and the effort that they have invested in a
specific aspect of Chinese culture within
5 minutes. The performance can be anything related to China’s unique
culture, including singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, calligraphy,
Chinese martial arts, or recitation of a Chinese poem. Contestants will be judged by
integrity and performance difficulty.
4.Registration
Registration is a two part
process:
2) E-mail a recording of the oral presentation to competition@chinesehighway.com. The file size should not exceed 5MB, and less than 3 minutes long. The
subject line in the email should be“2016 Chinese Bridge.”
The registration deadline is March 1, 2016. The Contest
Committee will invite qualified contestants
to take part in the contest
later in March.
5. The Contest
The contest will take place on
April 9, 2016 at China Institute in New York City. Out-of-area contestants will
receive a stipend for lodging and transportation.
5. Prizes and Awards
1) The winner from the senior level will be
recommended to participate in the Chinese Bridge Final Competition, taking place in Beijing, China in
July, 2016, all travel costs will be covered by Hanban.
2) All contestants will receive a prize and certificate for their participation.
