Stony Brook University. Professor Lou Charnon-Deutsch

DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES, LITERATURES AND CULTURES
DR. RAYSA AMADOR, CHAIR

On Monday, November 24, before Thanksgiving Break, the Department had the pleasure of hosting a guest speaker from Stony Brook University. Professor Lou Charnon-Deutsch gave a presentation on the development of the visual culture and humor in newspapers and journals printed in the 19th century. Specifically, she spoke of the changes from using a press system to photography, presenting new ideas of beauty and “reality” with the transition. Professor Charnon-Deutsch’s most recent published work was on the representation of women and historical events in Spanish periodicals of the 19th century onwards.
